The Beautiful Mess of New Beginnings

Cheers to the New Chapter

First of April, I began a new life, which, fittingly, felt a little like a joke at first. New girl in a new area, new routine. Everything was different, including my coffee order (because apparently “normal” coffee varies by postcode). The first two weeks? Chaos, confusion, and the constant mental gymnastics of remembering names and not accidentally sitting at someone else's "unofficial" desk.

Every day felt like being the new kid in school, smiling awkwardly, nodding at conversations I didn’t understand, and pretending to know where the bathroom was, which I honestly did not!

But then something shifted.

Somewhere between the awkward small talk and the desperate Googling of workplace acronyms, things started to click. I laughed at an inside joke (and actually got it). I didn’t need GPS to find where the coffee was. And for the first time, I didn’t feel like a visitor; I felt like I belonged.

Change is weird. It sneaks up on you through new habits, new faces, and slightly improved posture (probably from pretending to be confident all day). But it also reminds you that discomfort is just growth in disguise, with a bad haircut and maybe some social anxiety.

So here’s to new beginnings: the ones that rattle us, reshape us, and occasionally make us cry in the office bathroom, but also the ones that open doors, teach us resilience, and surprise us with unexpected joy.

And if all else fails… there’s always a good cup of coffee.
